Both come from the cotton plant. The distinction is the farming standards and verification: certified organic cotton follows rules on agricultural inputs and genetically modified seed.
Why choose organic cotton?
Choosing certified organic cotton supports farming standards that restrict synthetic pesticides and fertilisers and prohibit genetically modified seed. For finished textiles, certification such as GOTS also covers processing and social criteria.
One thing organic doesn't tell you
Organic fibre alone does not establish how a finished fabric was dyed or processed — that's why we look at both: organic cotton grown on SEKEM's farms in Egypt (USDA Organic), and garments made under GOTS.
