Our Story

Newborn in an organic cotton knotted gown

Under the Nile began in 1998 with a mother who wanted her daughters to wear clothes free of harsh chemicals. She found her answer on the banks of the Nile — at SEKEM, the Egyptian pioneer of biodynamic farming founded in 1977.

For 25 years the brand grew with SEKEM, and today it is fully in SEKEM's hands: grown, spun, sewn and finished in Egypt, straight from the source.

Cotton harvest on SEKEM farms in Egypt

From seed to home

Our cotton is grown on certified biodynamic farms in Egypt, without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. It is then knitted, dyed with low-impact dyes and sewn by our own team — every step fair traded under SEKEM's Economy of Love.

What we never use

No azo dyes, no chlorine bleach, no formaldehyde, no flame-retardant chemicals, no BPA, PVC or phthalates, no fragrance.

The 13 Villages Project

Our fruit & veggie toys are hand-sewn by women in 13 villages in Sharkeya from organic cotton scraps — each one a small business of its own.
